During the match against England in St. Lucia, West Indies' Brandon King suffered a side strain, casting doubt on his participation in the remaining T20 World Cup matches. King scored a rapid 23 runs off 12 balls, including a massive six off Reece Topley, before attempting a shot against Sam Curran and succumbing to the injury. After receiving medical attention, King retired hurt and did not field during England's innings, with Shimron Hetmyer taking his place. Cricket West Indies confirmed the side strain injury.
Side strains typically require several weeks to heal, and with only 10 days left in the tournament, King's availability for the remaining matches is uncertain. Preparing for their next Super Eight match against the USA on Friday at Kensington Oval, West Indies is considering replacements from their standby list, including Andre Fletcher, Kyle Mayers, Fabian Allen, Hayden Walsh Jr., and Matthew Ford. Kyle Mayers is seen as a strong candidate to replace King, although Andre Fletcher offers a solid option at the top of the batting order.
